Engagement photography in Vancouver

Sandra and Trevor`s engagement session took place in Langley, British Columbia.

March is a tricky month for a photography session in Vancouver, as the weather is so unpredictable and, well, rainy. Somehow we got lucky, and also watching the forecast helps a lot, and we got a great overcast day in the park with some sunny breaks.
Sandra and Trevor met the usual way these days – online. I think at least half of the couples I get an honor to photograph actually met through a dating site or other online medium, so it definitely becomes a standard way to get to know one another, and, naturally, fall in love. Trevor brought his dog, Abby, to the shoot, and she was definitely a star of the session.

I really enjoy having pets at an engagement session, after all, they are part of the family and very much deserve to be recognized in the pictures. Besides, they definitely bring spontaneity to the shoot, and it is my best chance to capture candid laughs and goofs.

The park (Derby Reach) provided wonderful background for the shoot with a barn, old fences and some flowers, and the grass couldn’t be greener on our side of the world.

Engagement sessions are extremely helpful for both bride and groom and the photographer. It is a chance to get to know each other a bit better, to get comfortable in front of the camera for the couple, and an opportunity for the photographer to know your “good side”. Most photographers include an engagement session into their packages exactly because it has a great value for both parties and significantly helps easing the things on a wedding day. Therefore, I always recommend my couples to have an engagement session before the wedding day. If there is enough time, it also gives a couple a great choice of pictures for save-the-dates, wedding invitations and decorations for the wedding reception.

About Julie Doro Photography

My name is Julie, I am the owner and the main photographer of the photography studio based in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. I love my job, and I am very proud and happy to have a lot of returning clients! It is so much fun to see their families grow bigger year by year! I have been running my studio in Vancouver for 3 years as a full-time photographer, dedicating all my effort to serving my clients better and delivering exceptional work.

When I am not taking beautiful images, or editing pictures, or educating myself on the latest photography trends and technology, I spend my time traveling around the world with my husband (we’ve visited over 40 countries by now), skiing or hiking in beautiful British Columbia, researching new restaurants, cooking some new exotic dish, watching movies or visiting vintage clothing shops to find some unique gems.

Being very passionate about weddings, family, newborn and maternity photography, I am very honored to be trusted by many clients to document their special events. Every family is unique and it is truly a pleasure to capture beautiful moments along its development – starting with the wedding, going into maternity and newborn images, and continuing with annual family photography.

Even though photography equipment is not the main thing you want to know about your photographer these days, you may be interested to know that I am using the top level Canon cameras, lenses and flashes. Also, I pay the highest level of attention to backing up every single item – I always have a replacement of substitute for everything, from camera bodies and lenses to memory cards and batteries. Technical fails are pretty much not humanly possible with this level of backup! I never lost a picture and I am very proud of that!

Get in touch with me for your special event, I will be very happy to offer a lot of recommendations to make it very memorable and, of course, to capture great images to enjoy and keep forever!

Online dating photography

Online dating photography

Online dating seems to be the most popular way to meet people. These days you don`t even have to say in your profile that you are “willing to lie about how we met” – it is perfect acceptable now! Which is great, however, the new challenges present themselves for anyone considering online dating – how do I create a profile that portraits me the way I want to be seen? How do I tell my story and be interesting without meeting this person? How do I structure it? What is the most important and what should be left for our first/second/fifth date? Finally, I don`t have any pictures! At least, not the ones I like… Oh well, maybe let`s do it some other time…

Stop! Don`t do this! What if your “the one” will meet someone else while you are debating whether it is worth your effort?

Vancouver is a tough place to find that special person, no kidding!

I will be very happy to help you with your online dating profile, starting from creating beautiful images that are casual enough not to look too staged, but at the same time reflect your personality. I will also review your existing profile and offer you some suggestions.

Pricing - $300 for 1 hour session (outside or in a studio, weather dependant), you`ll receive 30+ images.

I recently did this shoot for David, and he was saying that he is already meeting great people!

100 days - baby Owen

100 days - baby Owen

I had a pleasure of capturing some special moments for little Owen and his family. The occasion was the celebation of 100 days - Chinese tradition to mark the date in baby`s life when he or she is considered to be living, as due to high level of newborn fatalities in old times wasn`t guaranteed at all.

Heritage Vancouver house makes a wonderful background for the pictures. Owen`s parents and grandparents surrounded this little boy with a lot of love, attention and entertainment, and it was so sweet to witness.

Wishing you guys amazing times ahead as a strong family!

Daniela and Art engagement session

It is a beautiful fall in Vancouver, even though we are deep into November already! We were very lucky to have a beautiful clear crisp morning at Olympic Village, where we met with Daniela and Art for their engagement session.

These two are really sweet together, being a great sport about somewhat chilly weather, and so much fun to photograph.

Engagement session - Sam and Andres

I really enjoy engagement sessions for a number of reasons - it is a great way for me to connect with the couple, get to know them a bit more, their likes and dislikes, and their good sides =)

As a bonus, the couple gets some good images they could use for the guest book, save the date cards or simply to star their new family album.

Sam and Andres are so much fun to photograph! I loved her red dress, and their chemistry is so amazing! Can`t wait to photograph their wedding in July!

Vancouver Folk Festival

I was just thinking about summer... Very appropriate for this rainy Vancouver day. When I think of summer, I think ice cream, beach, walks, hikes, patios, music festivals...

Last summer I had a pleasure of photographing Vancouver Folk Festival, here are some great images of the performers - Andrew Bird (http://www.andrewbird.net), Amos Lee (http://www.amoslee.com), La Manta (http://www.lamanta.mx) and many others...

Session for maternity photography

March 24, 2015

Maternity photography

I really like maternity photography because of my beautiful subjects. I think a pregnant woman is her own Universe, she is so focused on a new life growing inside her, and the love she generates touches everyone around her. It is fasinating to witness and even more so - to capture.

It is also a real pleasure to see parents to be together, watching his attention towards her, how he treasures her and takes care of her - and their baby...

I am so fortunate as a photographer to witness these moments of tenderness, and get these couples something to cherish and remember this time by - beautiful images.

Engagement session for Melissa and John

Engagement session is a great way for me as a wedding photographer to get to know the couple better, to make them feel more comfortable around me and the camera. It is also a way to get the couple a few pictures of them together to start writing their family history.

So all you need is a couple, a photographer, a camera and a nice day. And love, of course!

1st birthday party for Alyssa

1st birthday party for Alyssa

I love kids birthday parties! They are so cute and don`t pose (and pause) for a photographer at all! In Vancouver we are happy to have so many different cultures, and it is so much fun to learn a bit more about all of them, celebrations being a very good demonstration of cultural traditions.

Angela, Alyssa`s mother; "Julie photographed my daughter`s first birthday party and did a great job! She was very friendly and professional. The photos looked awesome and she was able to get them to us in one weeks time! Thanks again Julie!"
